My 2.0 16v ACE coupe idles normally at about 1100 but can drop down below that sometimes. Basically it is a little inconsistant, and I'm not sure what it should sit at.

Local garage scratched thier heads and said 'ooh, 100,000 miles, yeah its just old, you'll just have to live with it'. Don't use them anymore.

Saw on another thread that the problem may be the idle stabiliser valve needing cleaning.

Can anyone help identify the location please?

Also, when I'm changing up through the gears with a bit of power, the throttle seems to hang on in there for just a second or so longer than it should on each change. Have heard someone else complain about this.

Is this down to something else being a bit sticky/dirty?

It sits to the rear of the engine' check firstly power supply to the valve
Then connect a multimeter to the valve for resistance measurement.
specification: 4 ... 12 ω
If reading does not match specification
Replace idling-speed stabilisation valve
The valve can also be checked by final control diagnosis in which the valve is activated , you can then see if it functioning properly

Thanks Kenney,

I'm being a bit stupid perhaps, but what is final control diagnosis?

It is part of a diagonstic programme in which you can activate various components,to see if they function

I don't know if this affects the 16v's but on 20v's the underbonnet liner sags and fouls the throttle linkage, would explain both problems..
A sticky throttle/cable is another possibility
