A4 diesel- 136,145 bhp ???

Hi folks..1st post so be gentle !

I currently have an A3 s line 170 bhp diesel

i'm looking at an A4 s line- can anyone let me know if the have had experience of the above 2 engines, i know jumping to the bigger car an less horses that it will be slower, but i can live with that as long as it is not under powered.

not mentioned the 170Bhp as that is out the budget, so either going for a standard s line or the black edition.

Firstly welcome.

I had a similar dilema 12 months ago.
I previously had an A3 Sportback quattro 2.0 TDI 170 S-line LE.

I can't comment in the 136 but I have 143 Exc s Line.
The key difference are:

The A4 is smoother and quieter.
The gearing makes better use of the available power.
The CR engine is smoother and revs much cleaner than the old 140 PD engine.

decided a4 is going be way over my budget.

going to go for a another a3 s line -but 140 not 170.
picked some nice extras etc.

you are not the 1st one to comment on the engine power range and smoothness, my 170 sounds awful !

I have to agree with all of the points made by Hammy.

I had an A3 S-Line 170bhp and I now have an A4 136bhp TDIe and I much prefer the A4. The A4 is much more refined. You mentioned that you have already decided on the A3, but I would always go for the A4, plus the A3 range will be updated soon and you will be stuck with an old model car.

Ditto to the above....
The CR is in a differnet league to the old PD's.
Power is more linear and smooth. I have (see below) and with the auto it feels like there is a lot bigger engine under the bonnet.

I had a choice of an a3 170 black edition or an a4 sline 143

I took the a4 sline , not as fast but a nice comfy quality package
