View Full Version : DAB Radio on the CC

I've started this thread in an attempt to clarify exactly what options there are for DAB radio on the CC. I know it's been mentioned on a few other threads but the information seems somewhat confused.

I was originally told that the RCD510 DAB radio was no longer available and that the new RNS315 would provide DAB. However, the exact words on some of the descriptions is that it is DAB Compatible (and this is backed up by BarCar on the “How long does the car take to deliver from specified build week” thread who has a RNS315 but can’t get DAB).

From an enquiry I put into VW I was informed that there was a separate DAB optional extra for the RNS315 that needs to be specified but it appears that this option is not included on the CC price list. What I’m also desperate to know is: if this option is going to be available for the RNS315, can you have both the DAB radio option and the MDI option at the same time.

One thing I have found out is that some of the confusion may be related to what options are available for the new Passat. The basic new Passat comes with a RCD310 with MDI as standard with an optional extra of DAB. The SE version of the new Passat comes with the RNS315 and the optional DAB can be specified with this. However, it is not clear whether the MDI will be included with the RNS315 for this option.

Apologies for the long post – but it’s really important to me to get both DAB and MDI on the CC I want to order. I'm even prepare to trade-off SatNav if I have to. Any further info on this subject would be much appreciated.

See this thread .... I've been trying to establish what the crack is with DAB & the RNS315. So far I've not got the definitive answer. The information available suggests that it is an optional upgrade which works with the MDI but is not compatible where the reversing camera has been installed. Still waiting on confirmation on cost for the upgrade and whether it's a 'factory install option only' or can be 'retro-fitted'.

Thanks for the link Gregmeister. The picture they are showing looks like the RCD510 (which was the only option that previously provided DAB).

The dealer is still saying that the RNS315 has DAB - I'm trying to get all the details I can before I go back to them.

In relation to the cost, the following is an email I received back from VWUK enquiries:

Thank you for your recent contact in relation to the Passat CC GT. Please accept my apologies for the delay in my response.

After conferring with our Sales Team I can confirm that the Passat CC does come with the RNS 315 as standard, which has an optional extra of DAB radio for 175.

I hope this information proves useful.

Thank you for contacting Volkswagen UK.

I’ve fired another email back to them to confirm that you can have both the DAB and MDI. I’ll let you know when I get a response

Have just received this response from VW UK which confirms that you can have both MDI and DAB:

I have spoken to our Sales Department and they have advised me that MDI is available with DAB in the Passat CC GT. The retailers should be aware of DAB being an optional extra of 180.00.

There also appears to be a £5 increase for the dab option in the last two weeks!

I'll now go back to the dealer to get them to check their price lists - last time I spoke with them they said DAB came as standard. Has anybody got evidence that the dealers do know that DAB is a separate option?

As usual, the VWUK website is near useless - out of date price lists and brochures and when you go into "features and options" it includes the RNS315 as standard but still does not show any DAB option.

To answer my own question, the release of the latest price list (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=112107) now shows the DAB as an Optional Extra and can be specified with the MDI.

I'll now check with the dealer that they've odered the right options (they were saying that DAB was standard on the RNS315). I've been given an expected delivery date of end April. Anybody else expecting the DAB option and with delivery before end April?

It's not something I've specifically ordered due to all the confusion surrounding the whole DAB issue .... but it is something I want fitting. My cars not due until April eiter. I think a call to my lease company may be in order! I dont want to change the order at this late stage and end up at the back of the que if its something that can be added by the dealer after its been built.

I've heard that the DAB Receiver is not easy to add after delivery. Anybody else know any different?

Just as an update on this, I had a DAB aerial fitted to my CC which has the RNS315 but no DAB specified when ordered. I then used a VCDS cable to enable the DAB option and, hey presto, its all working with crystal clear DAB! And the total cost was £90 to have the aerial supplied and fitted by a specialist

Did you go to Car and Home Stereo in Macclesfield in the end?

I enquired about adding DAB to my 60 plate CC at Altrincham VW and they could only offer a £1,000 upgrade to the radio; it didn't take me long to think about it! £90 however is far more tempting...

Not sure what I'm doing with my CC yet though, got to make a decision by the end of the year - I'm watching the 2013 CCs thread closely :D

I did indeed. They initially quoted me £150 for the job but when it came to pay, they said it was simpler than first thought. If you go for it and need somone to activate the DAB in VCDS, just give me a shout :)

The rns315 is standard now with dab or at least it was on my car.

Are these units worth much because I was thinking of selling mine and getting the kenwood system from the dealer.

I think they still go for a 300-400 quid on ebay as they can be retrofitted to most VW cars. As far as I'm aware the RNS315 has been standard fitment since at least the begining 2011. Cars that were being delivered in the latter part of 2010 (which is when my car was supposed to have been delivered) came with the earlier RNS310.

Cheers for the offer Gregmeister, much appreciated. Have you made any other changes with VCDS that we could do at the same time?

Oh, and where does the DAB aerial go on the car?

I'm still enjoying my CC so much that I'm tempted to keep it longer

A few minor tweaks.. Mostly the stuff that was suggest by hartry a while back. The teardrop wipe, heated seat memory and large mph display, are the most useful ones i have found.

As for the aerial, it's mounted on the rear screen above the brake light. If you don't have the heated front screen, you can go with the more discrete windscreen mounted option where there is no visible external aerial

Hi Gregmeister

Thank you for your v kind offer but I decided against adding a DAB aerial in the end as I've traded in my Passat CC for a CC (bit earlier than expected). Just couldn't leave that awesome roofline!
