I was talking to a mate:beerchug: last night who mentioned that VW are recommending timing belts are changed at 40k and not 60k or 4 years.

Is this correct and has there been problems with belts on the Beetle.:aargh4:

Does this apply across the Beetle range Petrol or Diesel or both.

Could this be another way of VW making money?:dunno:

Looks like I'm on my own on this one then. dunno:

Vw are recommending 4years/40k across the board for Timing belt changes, especially for lower mileage drivers.

No known concerns re timing belt failure afaik.
More likely to do with non-inspection of timing belt at svc I suspect.

So the recommendation is across the board ;) Including Diesel as well:1zhelp:

It's just my Golf GT TDI 130 03 PLATE is due a service soon (service light showing 1000 miles until service due) It's done 81000 on a Long Life service schedule and the timing belt was done at 65k the last service in April 2006 so it should be ok. Always thought diesel's were 60k thanks for the info:beerchug:

It used to be 60k,then 60k or 4 years, but we got used to that eventually....so naturally they changed it of course.;)

Right thanks Jethro I think I'm with it now ;)

So VW are now recommending 40K/4 years...thats crazy at the amount they charge to change one, I suppose its just another way to dodge warranty claims:zx11: .

I think I'll stick to regular inspections and 60k/4 years.
