Just drove home, and suddenly the engine management light starts flashing.
The engine is making a very odd noise. Almost rumbling.
Anybody had this?

Its a 52, 2L petrol.

Just the engine management light, not the oil warning light?

Probably just a coil pack issue, not big deal. You need to get it code read.

So do you think I can drive it. I just started it up, without moving it. The EM light stayed off, but it sounds 'sick'

Hopefully just a coil pack but I cannot see, hear, feel it so I cannot say if it is OK to drive.

Thanks Crasher, was that oil or coil pack? I don't have a clue what either might be.

Coil pack old boy, too much Glu wein mit Amereto, sorry! The coil packs(s) provide the spark that makes the bang and if it/one shuts down it causes a misfire, which feels awful.

Thanks Crasher, sorry to disturb your imbibing.
From the descriptions I've read elsewhere, this is exactly whats happened.
I'm going to take it in somewhere tmrw. Wish I had the balls to do it myself.
Thanks for the great advice

Thanks again, Crasher
Yep, it was a blown coil. It was fixed today.
What a great site, this is.
