Has anyone with an A4 fitted the silver mirror covers (S4 style) to their car? If so, how much are they, best place to buy and is it an easy job?

Really fancy it as a simple mod.:beerchug:

If you buy cheap one's, i suppose they would!! I'm just looking to see if anyone has done this and what price it would be- i dont fancy a set of £40 cheapies from fleabay, thats for sure!!!:aargh4:

Each to their own. Sorry but I think they look like what they are… a bit of shiny metal plonked over your door mirror

I think they look great on an Avant as the OEM ones are matte alu colour and match the same colour as the roof rails but I would say that as I have them :)

If you want a set ebay has some from an Audi dealer although I can't remember which one, the B7 one's were easy to swap over although B8 might be a bit trickier as you have the indicator unit to contend with too.

Honest I do not know what they are. I think I paid £300ish for my B7 ones new from the dealer.

Are they the latest model ones that I have on my 59 plate?

Happy to come and get them if the price is right.

I've decided to fit these after all, the local dealer has quoted half hours labour to do. After looking at how difficult it seemed I think the dealer is giving me a good price.

I'll post a new picture once they are fitted.

Not for me......far too many lowered and chipped B7's around (with aftermarket HIDs) with them on.

Nearly as naff as the 2.7 badge I saw stuck on the back on a 2.0 TDi B8 S-Line yesterday!

£200 eBay impulse purchase, I thought they were fake to start as I was expecting solid aluminium :D
£60 for local Audi dealer to fit.

Glad you like them. :beerchug:

no my mate works for vw he done them for me as i didnt have the balls to pull mirrors off, also u need a set of them star shaped drivers aswell, ive added a guide for you, hope this helps

I see this question a lot. The DIY is simple. I believe this only applies to NA caps as Euro Stubbies are a little different. If somebody can verify that would be great.
(*edit: according to 2K_GLX and Randal Graves, euro stubbies are the same.)
I accept no responsibility for your failures. Proceed at your own risk.
1. Remove the mirror glass. Simple move the mirror to the extreme inside/outside position, grab an edge, and pull.
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p40/bluebora20v/MirrorCapDIY/IMG_6791.jpg
2. If applicable, unplug heater wires. Note where each wire attaches.
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p40/bluebora20v/MirrorCapDIY/IMG_6794copy.jpg
3. Locate the black plastic plug on the bottom of the mirror housing.
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p40/bluebora20v/MirrorCapDIY/IMG_6796copy.jpg
4. Remove the plug, just pull it out.
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p40/bluebora20v/MirrorCapDIY/IMG_6797.jpg
5. Locate the metal tab with a hole inside the mirror housing under the motor.
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p40/bluebora20v/MirrorCapDIY/IMG_6800copy.jpg
6. Use a small screwdriver, awl, etc. Something long, narrow, but fairly stiff. I tried using precision screwdrivers because my normal Craftsman flatheads were all too big to fit through the hole and they would bend. Insert the tool through the hole in the mirror housing and the hole in the metal tab from (5).
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p40/bluebora20v/MirrorCapDIY/IMG_6801copy.jpg
7. Move the tool towards the front of the car in order to move the tab towards the back of the car. Note: you may be able to grab the tab with pliers and pull back. (*edit: 2K_GLX says it may be necessary to pry the black tab on the right side of the mirror housing while removing the cap [see picture from step (5)])
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p40/bluebora20v/MirrorCapDIY/IMG_6802copy.jpg
8. Pull straight up on the cap as you move the tab. The tab is stubborn especially the first time the cap is removed. You should hear when the tab finally lets go of the cap.
9. Pull up to remove the cap.
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p40/bluebora20v/MirrorCapDIY/IMG_6803copy.jpg
10. Install in reverse.
Here's a picture of the metal tab that holds the mirror cap for reference. http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p40/bluebora20v/MirrorCapDIY/IMG_6805copy.jpg

Great guide Bricktop, but I don't think its for B8?? I started the install but it looked a bit tricky. After speaking to the dealer and getting a good price from them it was a no brainer to let them do it. :approve:

Anyways if you have better skills or more confidence :nervous: than me have a look here.

I have a B6 S4 with a damaged door mirror (alloy 'swivelling bracket' broken:zx11:).

The electrics etc are working fine and it's 'glued' back on ATM. Can I source a used 'standard' A4 mirror and utilise the alloy bracket or fit the whole mirror with S4 backing?

TIA. :beerchug:

Edit: Sorry - I found this thread via the search and I didn't realise it's in the B8 section. :Blush2: Hoping somebody can still help, tho.

What ever you do , do not buy ebay ones .. I researched mine when i plumbed for a pair of matt fakers .. all the <removed> about the manufacturing process is the same as oem blah blah blah ..
When mine turned up , they looked great and were a really good fit. 6 months down the line and it's a very different story , the matt effect is disappearing , the road grime is ingrained and to top it off the plastic paint or whatever the chuff it is is starting to bubble underneath.
I tried to get in touch with the ebay seller who just keeps on deleting my emails ( i know that because I get the outlook notification.!!)

This is what they end up like after 6 months ...
