engine light

Was just wondering what the engine light looks like on the dash (1999 1,8t) just want to make sure that no bulbs have been removed from the dash. If it isnt the engine light what is hte light which shows a car and a key. Thanks

car and key is immobilzer
engine light looks like a cylinder block and is yellow in colour

Yes you will have one..
Go on google images and type VW engine light and you'll get the idea of how it looks like..

Picture i just saw has the engine light near the 20 mph area, mine defo hasnt got one. Am i right in thinking that it should come one when the ignition is on and go off when the engine is started. i smell a rat!!

Is the engine doing anything that should light
the engine-light?

Even if the light has been blanked-off, by a scoundrel,
a fault-scan will tell you what you need to know.

I have a 2000 1.8T and when i turn on the ignition all i get is an EPC light (apart form ABS, Battery etc...) No light that looks like an engine block.

Maybe i dont have an engine light then however the engine is running lumpy between 2-3000rpm (maybe a misfire) and i have vcds lite and im not sure how to use it but have got 2 codes 00524 max boost pressure exceeded intermittent and 16486 maf signal to low.

Clear the two codes you have and then rescan after a drive. What ever comes back is a fault that needs looking for.
