Hi

For the past couple of months I have been feeling shuddering when pressing brakes in my passat. I thought that my pads and disks are worn and sure enough they were (disks were not in a bad condition) and I replaced both. However, the shuddering is still there and now i feel it when at slow speed coming to a stop. Kiwck fit says that it's a fault with abs and i have ti take it ti vw dealer to checked and corrected.

I did get abs light a while back when i was on motorway doing 70ish speed but then there was no problem and light was gone.

Can you guide me as to what the real problem could be and whether my only resort is to take to vw *******???

I have 1.9 tdi 2000 passat x-reg.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Khurram

Is the shudder in the brake pedal or steering? It could be shimmy in the suspension bushes.

Agreed, when the ball-joint on the lower/rear arm wears,
it can shutter as you brake.

The shuddering is during braking and i can only feel it through the brake pedal. No shuddering in the steering wheel.

any clues?

Sounds like abs kicking in too early. A VCDS read will tell you if the abs system is reporting a problem.

You could try reseating the wheel sensors. Had they been disturbed for any reason before the problem started?

It is possible as I have had a lot of work done to the front right suspension and I think the CV boots were also changed on both sides.

Could that have caused the problem?

Sorry but what is VCDS?

Yes it could easily be the problem, it has happened a couple of times to mine after CV boot replacement. Rectified with a gentle tap to ensure they are seated correctly.

Sorry but what is VCDS?

It is a PC based fault code reader you can also make small changes to.
