I bought a March 10 A4 TDI SE this week. Overall I'm delighted with the car, but I have grown to rely on cruise control. I just read the latest A4 brochure before buying the car which lists the SE as having standard cruise control....but apparently this only became standard fit over the last few months. I didn't notice the lack of cruise control when testing the car - what a plonker!
My local dealer quoted me £500 to retro fit.
My question is does anyone have a recommendation of a cheaper independent supplier of retrofit cruise control.
I'm based in Cheltenham, but travel around midlands / north of England.
Many thanks for any advice.

im not 100%sure on the newer cars so if im wrong someone will put me right, but you will need the switch to operate it and a recode by VCDS, the ccm will need to be told it now has cruise fitted, not sure if you need to update a control module or not, im sure someone with VCDS will confirm this, you could always send a pm to crasher or martin1810 both are in the know, hope this helps bud

http://www.tclsatnav.com/index.html are around Manchester I think. It's run by Craigyb who'd on many car forums.

Or http://www.sharkperformance.co.uk/products/index.asp (run by Ben who's also on a lot of forums) and he's in Mansfield

I don't kno their prices but I'd guess under half the Audi price.

Our very own A8 Tech also undertakes Cruise retrofits. He's based in the North West, and you will probably need to travel to him to get the job done, but I believe he charges very reasonable rates.

Many thanks guys - I'll look into all the options above.
There's also a company called Hazzy Dayz near Luton who claim to be a specialist in retro fit cruise. Does anybody have any experience of this company?

HI Desmo, I would just add, make sure you buy OEM or Quality replica parts from Kufatec (OEM standard), or you will have a car that when it comes to re-sale, (EVEN! a TAXI driver would not touch it).

That’s for the last shape car not 8K, the new unit is only available with the indicator, and wiper stalks as well as the cruise. You need to be very careful buying a used one as there are so many options (auto dipping lights, lane change assist, etc). You may also the steering control unit but I think if you have DIS (Computer) it would be ok. I fitted it last year to mine a very straightforward job takes about an hour.

Thanks,
I'm not planning to fit it myself - just want the best value option using genuine parts. I'll report back when I get it fitted and what the cost and result is.

For B8 8k platform A4/A5 its roughly £250 fitted, the full switch pack is replaced unlike b7 which required only the cruise switch.

If you have multifunction steering wheel you have the high line steering angle sender so its not required

Hazzy days is fine but often more expensive than the dealers themselves.

Problem is people always suspect the dealer will be the most expensive but truth is the independents are charging more in my area.

Labour time 1 hour 15 mins (normally takes under the hour) but this at the dealers were the software comparison test take the time unlike vag com which takes 5 mins top, if retrofitted by none approved then please ask the your local dealership to update the vehicle with svm on line coding 050 050.

Interestingly I resolved a TT owners club members 2010 cruise retro fit problem recently, he choose a well known northwest so called specialist who not only charged more than local dealers but was unable to activate the cruise and this is not the first customer, using google I found lots of anti dealer comments but found nearly all had paid over the odds and most TT TTS OWNERS needed the dealers to rectify the missing signaling wire.

Some dealers may decline the retro fit for TT as its not approved or should I say there has been no installation instruction for workshop procedure however there is for B8 A4 and many others with a labour time so no overcharging

I'm not punting for work just experience tells me to retry the dealer or try another, as you will still need the dealer to make the retro fit complete by vag server online svm so the code changes become permanent additionally this updates the vehicles build specification and list the cruise as factory approved install.

Had my cruise control retrofit done by local North West Audi dealer and yes, was as cheap as local independent alternatives.

And it came back valeted and washed......:D

I had it done by Audi Huntingdon for £260 so your local dealer is playing the posh town card and charging the earth.
I once lived in Cirencester so know all about it.

Many thanks A8 Tech for this info.
I have been quoted £485 - 550 by 2 dealers which I think is too expensive.
Are you saying you are able to do the job? If so please give me a quote and your location details.
Best regards,
Derek Wardell

I've called several Audi dealers with lowest price of £350 offered. I think it may be more expensive for the current year model than older cars.
What struck me was that in every case, the dealer's parts dept had little idea of what was involved, were all very vague, and all had to go away and think about it before calling back.
I finally called Hazzy Dayz who told me exactly what was required, assured me that they would do all the software updates and quoted £308 fitted at my house (Cheltenham). This was only a £20 premium over travelling to Luton. They're fitting it next week so I'll report back.

I already have cruise so just out of interest, why the different parts for a saloon or avant?

I assumed Audi would keep differences to a minimum for cost savings and I can't see why they'd be different ?

Also is it any changes that can be make permanent by a visit to the dealer or just this?

Cruise comes as a complete set of stalks now so avant needs rear window washer

Just to complete the story on this issue:
Today Hazzy Dayz fitted the cruise control at my home address. Fitting was delayed due to bad weather before Xmas.
The result works perfectly - all genuine parts - and was fitted by their mobile Technician in one hour. Total cost for home fitting £314 - and despite claims that Audi dealers would match the price, I did not find one which came anywhere near.
Hazzy Dayz are based somewhere around Luton, but the Technician had just been to Cardiff Audi. Apparently they are specialists in some of the tricky electrical jobs Audi dealers don't feel able to manage themselves! Seems like a pretty competent company to me.

Sorry, that's incorrect dealers work to manufacturers standard and if the manufacturer tells them not to retro fit x,y or z ie (bluetooth etc) then they don't.Dealer price up north for cruise fitted £250 with full valet and courtesy car if required.

For the benefit of others, particularly in the North, please advise which Dealer offers such a price for retro fitting cruise control to a B8 model A4.
I tried JCT600 based in Bradford who quoted £480.
The cheapest quote I obtained from a dealer was from Leicester Audi.
Unit £134.31
Steering column shroud £25.78
Fitting £168.02.
Total with VAT £393.73.

If you have better information, please share for others benefit.

Hi Pal,

I too am interested in fitting a Cruise unit on my recently puchased B8 A4 sline tdi - can you recommend a dealer who would do a complete job for £250 ish. I am based in Blackburn Lancashire. Thanks in advance.

I too am looking at having "cruise" retro fitted to my A4 2.0L TDI SE. The car is a 2008 July model.

Have become a little confused regarding price as my local dealer quoted £408 and a dealer a few miles away quoted £281.
The difference seems to be to do with a "slip ring" that is either required or not and my local dealer is supposed to be looking into this ( basically they don't want to lose me as a customer)

Hopefully I'll get a response soon, I can then post back with the findings.

Eventually got a proper price for this job. £304.98, which includes 1 hour labour :D

Didn't think this was too bad.
