Anyone any remedies for a smokey Mk3 Golf TDI (N reg). 155k!

It smokes badly from cold particularly at slower speeds and gearchanges, the smoke is blueish and rather annoying / embarassing. However once the car reaches operating temperature it runs clean. I have had it checked at a reputable general garage and they could find no faults.

I have tried letting it warm up for 5mins but the car doesn't seem to want to reach operating temp until it has been driven at 4th and 5th gear speeds for a reasonable distance. Sadly my commute is stop start fro the first 8mile which probably doesnt help.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Sounds like you need to try a can of 10K Boost spray. I did my Mk3 Golf TDI 2 weeks ago and it makes a real difference. Less smoke and a quieter engine. Try it first. If it doesn't work then I would investigate the Cold Start Advance unit. It is supposed to keep the smoke and noise down on a cold engine. It operates for about 2 - 5 mins from glowplug preheat and start.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for advice.
Tried Charlie Browns and Halfords Auto Centres for 10k Boost Spray but neither had any.

Any suggestions for a stockist?

Hmm that's a bugger. It was my local Halfords I got my 10K boost from. Can they not order it in specially for you? If not then I would try another local independent car parts specialist. Try yell.co.uk for one in your area.

Hope this helps
