Do you have a lap top, VAG TACHO and a registered copy of VCDS together with the appropriate cables?

You need those two pieces of software, the lap top and the knowledge of how to use these to be able to stand any chance of adapting a used engine ECU to match the immobiliser which is inside the instruments. The other way is to send both ECU’s to an ECU specialist company to have the new used ECU cloned to match the old one or take the car to an Audi dealer. Also there are some mobile operations that can come out and perform the immobiliser adaptation but that would depended on where you are. I am afraid there is no simple answer to this problem, if there was the level of security provided by the systems would not be of much use.

oh right . that sounds like a right mess.

well basically i lent my brother the care and he seized the engine so i bought an engine off eBay what had only done 70k ... had that fitted but a few things went wrong with it

then the garage said the ecu unit wouldn't match the new engine so i bought a new ecu unit and the computer wont reconise it ... the car starts but then the immobilizer kicks in.

i spoke to audi and they said they wont touch it as they can not give me a guarantee and i said i didn't want one but they said the only way they will do it is if i buy a new computer for the car

We need some more information such as the original engine code and the engine code now fitted plus the part number of both ECU’s. Your right though, it sounds like a right mess.
