I've just added another 4 gig of Gskill 1600mhz DDR3 DC to mine to bring me up to 8 gig of matched memory in total, 7.8.7.24, 7 opened up very fast, games seem to have lost that help I'm running out brief stutter you get when the PC is maxxed out, Nero is faster to the table as well, I'm wondering if I'd ditched the old Q6600 Go step for a new i series, but only had 4 gig in still, if things would've been different.

Opinions.

Nero?! Christ on a Scooter, ditch that heap of bilge and you'd only need 64Mb and a Slot 1 CPU :D

Q6600 was/is one of the best £/Power CPUs around. The new Intel chips are good, but is it worth moving everything over to a new socket just to benefit?

I imagine your mobo is fairly recent as it supports DDR3 and S775?

Edit: What version of Win7 are you running? I'm finding 7 HP 64bit works really well on my old laptop

Btich that crap and go for CD burner XP.
So much better.
only draw back is that it does not do movies but if you go for AVS that will do the movies for you.
far better and quicker than nero.

The Q6600 is very good at over clocking.
just push it a littler harder after you ditches nero nad see what you think.

Like Mycarsavw said, no point in upgrading the hole unit and spending that money.

Do you do much maintance on your system?
updates, clean outs, just keeping it clean and organised?
are you running vista? :D
