I was going to fit the two blanks to the upper and lower holes for the fixed pipe but with the lower blank in place the top section is out of place to fit.

I might remove the pipe alltogether and have the two blanking plates covering the holes.

I can't see the pics cause of security in work but going by your text, I assume you've gone for the cone and not the panel.

Me personaly i'd stay away from cone filters unless your willing to make a metal plate to blank the filter from the heat of the engine. Look at Dave.F filters for example.
hot air is not good for performance as its less dence than cold air (it can be argued how much difference are you going to notice it in a diesel).
Me personaly i'd opt for a good panel filter and keep it as that.

When i did my EGR on the land rover, i covered both ends with blanking plates and removed the pipe. alot neeter way of doing it and if you can do it that way then i would.

where did you get the plates from?

GOT THE FILTERS OFF FLEA BAY, 3 QUID
Just come back from a test drive with the k&n in, sounds meateyer and seem a little more responsive, just have this feeling that it is a time bomb waiting to happen, but have also read some good reports of them being fine, will just wait and see. might let the mrs take it to work tomorrow 120m round trip...

just having a cuppa then will remove the EGR pipe and wack in both blanks.

here are the two blanks and pipe removed. look at the muck after a 5 mile run on the top blank

here is the K&N, didnt bother with a low down air feed as i didnt want crap from the road near it

and here is the oil on the MAF as i was putting on the cone.

You got the link of the one you went for?

warm air + diesel is a fail - that induction kit needs sealing in a heat-resistant box or a shield fitting.

running a cold feed to it wouldn't do any harm, it'll only push cold air to the filter.

imho, the original setup was superior to what you've got now.

Might bang it in to the original box to shield it or even the old heat shield.

I would, sadly the benefits of the cone will be cancelled out by the warmth of the bay.

simple solution would be to run that cold feed from below, to the filter.

Hi ESH

As you can see I have left the OEM air intake coming in over the number plate and round in to the bottom of the box providing air under the filter, as for running the K&N supplied pipe, they mention using cable ties to secure it, now I know I'm on the navy and bodget and scarper is my middle name but I would want some think a little more secure.

Also i cant see much space to fit the pipe?

If you fit a heat shield around the filter, blocking all the hot air from the engine, the orignal air feeds might be enouth.
if you do for extra pipes you will have something you can secure them to and not have any random pipe work or cable ties around.

I'm with everyone here in that the warm air will be drawn in from the engine bay, even if you have a heat sheild fitted. Shame you fitted it as I would say send it back for a refund as the stock box is capable of flowing enough air up to around 230bhp. Sorry.

The EGR mod on the other hand is a worth while one, and only costs 6 quid!

Maybe my imagation but the engine feels slightly more responsive since fitting it and no more black crap going into the manifold and intercooler :fing02:

Hi

I'm still in two minds

it does sound different which I like might get an old air box top and make it fit over the come and put the metal heat shield back on the box, that way the come is taking in only outside air, but that might defet the whole cone effect. Or stick it on ebay and put the stock one back on.
