My second half took the car out for a shopping trip and smacked against a large block of stone on a curb (sidewalk) while trying to avoid an oncoming car.

Initial estimate for a new bumper and headlight (it's crooked downwards about 10 degrees) is one thousand Pounds. :(

The car went in for repair last week.

If possible take it to a VW body shop rather than the nominated insurance repairer. You might have to pay an increased insurance excess payment but at least any repairs will be VW guaranteed and will not not affect the anti-corrosion warranty.

A sad sight - hope it's back in original condition ASAP.

And thats the reason my girlfriend wont drive the Golf, she knows I`d go ballistic if she damaged the car.

I remember about 6 years ago, she drove my Passat the day after I put brand new alloys on - she only went and curbed it before even getting out of our street !! :zx11:

Not good. Hope you get it back to the way it was. What speed was she doing? These new car bodies tend to crumple at the drop of a hat. It looks like the headlight and maybe the wing have all been pushed even though the impact appears on the bumper
