Secondary air pump

I have a 2002 model Passat 2.0s and I have the fault code up for the secondary air pump. It tells me, secondary air pump, relay short to ground. I have checked the 40 amp fuse, that's fine, I have changed the relay 373 which is now a 645 and the fault is still reading as active. Can anyone please tell me what to try next.

"relay short to ground" means the output is shorted to ground. That doesn't mean the relay is. The output is the motor so look at the wiring and the motor.

Thanks for your quick reply, I will have a look at that, not relishing the thought of digging deep under the dash mind, might be wise to let an auto electrician do it I suppose.
