Had a search but can't find anything - does anyone use an android app for OBD via a bluetooth connector?

Found this: http://www.appbrain.com/app/torque/org.prowl.torque which looks awsome if it works

I really want one of these...

I was going to search for ways of getting other info on the DIS but this is much more cool.

Going by the comments on that particular app the following cheap dongle should do the trick.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/WIRELESS-BLUETOOTH-OBD-II-2-OBD2-INTERFACE-SCAN-S1-/180519048235?pt=UK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item2a07c6142b

Should then be able to provide real time data to your mobile on speed/mpg/torque etc as well as acting as a fault code reader

Got searching and there's a lot of apps out there. The clip showing one called rev is quite funny and impressive too:

[can I do this on here or is it classed as some kind of advertising?]

I have just bought this off ebay - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290431516867

I have an Android phone. The Torque app is only £2.95 in the market and there is a free ad supported version which is a little bit more limited but still allows you to read and reset fault codes.

Let us know how you get on with that reader, there's been mixed reviews of the cheaper Chinese ones but as long as it connects properly I can't see there being an issue

It arrived today. Plugged it in but couldnt find any details of what the bluetooth pairing code was but Android suggested trying 0000 and 1234 and the latter worked.
Then I just ran up Torque and went into the settings to select the OBD module to use and it worked fine. I tried the high speed communication setting and worked for a while but switching between screens it said it detected corruption and suggested turning off high speed. Probably would be fine with less dials on the screen though.
I read the engine fault codes and there were none logged which is always nice to know. The only thing that doesnt seem to work is the car speed and boost pressure gauges which is not unusual. I think if you can find the parameter you can add it yourself. I will head off to the torque forum in a moment.

Sounds good, is there an option to monitor MPG at all?

Yes it will do but you have to configure the engine size in the app. You can also configure the car weight so it can do a rough calculation of the BHP aswell.

Mine arrived a few days ago and works well. Lots of information over on the torque forum: http://torque-bhp.com/forums/?wpforumaction=viewforum&f=1.0

One thing I have noticed, and has been highlighted on the forum is that the MPG tool is not accurate for Diesel cars as yet. The guy behind the app is hoping to have it sorted sometime in the new year but I am currently looking for similar apps which may already have it sorted.

my bluetooth obd dongle arrived today, i tested with the free torque app and have purchased the full version. I have set up my digital readouts but have not yet figured out how to scan for faults.

right.

bit of a review.

some dials / digi readouts work, some don't. Those that i have used that do work are GPS Height, Coolant temp, Intake Temp, HP and torque work when accellerating only, Load, Boost and Revs.

Those that do not work are Fuel level, Fuel pressure, Baro pressure and exernal air temp.

Still not figured out how to fault read, is it done with the phone or with the cd software and a bluetooth dongle in the laptop?

There are 3 sizes of read out to chose from, in either dials or digital or a combination of both. If the smallest size is selected, i can get 6 diald per screen and there are 7 available screens to fill. HTD desire HD.

I have entered my engine size in to the settings as 2.0 but there is no option to choose fuel type or 2wd/4wd. i have entered 1400kg as car weight but will corrct this when i've checked my manual. You also have to enter the maximum RPM of the engine. i set mine to 4500 as i was unsure wether to set it to the beginning or the end of the red line area of therev counter.

Would it be correct to assume maybe that the app knows you engine type / fuel by a combination of the engine size and rev limit settings?

From what i've read fuel type selection will be added to the app at some point, I don't think it's picked up automatically.

I haven't got it connected at the moment but I think to read fault codes you have to go to:

menu/actions/show logged faults

Ben could you tell me which obd2 module you purchased? as I'm very interested in this......plus you've got a HTC Desire HD so at least I know it's compatible with my HTC.

Cheers
