This fine car has notched up 122,000 miles and is now requiring regular coolant top - ups. My local garage(not an Audi specialist)can find no visible sign of a water leak( having done the normal pressure testing) and this, coupled with an indication of moisture in the exhaust still present after 1 hours driving, has led them to conclude that one or both of the head gaskets are leaking.
However, there is no trace of emulsification on the underside of the oil filler cap, and the more the car is used the less pro rata it leaks - I can drive 400 miles in 2 days without a top up but only 200 miles or so over 4 days.
To replace one head gasket is apparently a 20 hour job and can only be carried out by an Audi franchise as specialist tools are required. Furthermore they state that there is no way of knowing in advance which head gasket is leaking, if only one, so the operation of sod's law will dictate the removal of the good head first thus adding to the astronomical bill from a main Audi dealer.
Any constructive comments gratefully received.
