View Full Version : A4 2001 instrument fault code
Hi still new to this vag com stuff. While scanning the car the other day I got the following fault code yet temp gauge works fine. Any ideas?
Address 17: Instruments Labels: 8E0-920-9xx-8E2.LBL
Part No: 8E0 920 950 GX
Component: KOMBI+WEGFAHRS. RB4 D27
Coding: 01400
Shop #: WSC 00751
WAUZZZ8E32A079398 AUZ6Z0A0183972
1 Fault Found:
01039 - Coolant Temperature Sensor (G2)
30-10 - Open or Short to Plus - Intermittent
First thing to do is to note the code (which you've done) then clear it and drive for a few days to see if it comes back again.
8 out of 10 times it's an old code.
few days? comes straight back the instant you clear it
Ah, then it's a fault!
From the read out it's intermittent but it looks as thought you need a new coolant sensor - fairly common.
Make sure you replace it with the same colour sensor though.

cheers for that an the links I'll have a look tomorrow. You do seem to be gen'd up on this sort of thing I was thinking of purchasing a copy of elsawin so once I have the codes I can actuality know what it means but am unsure if this is the best route what do you recommend
Elsawin is dealer only software - I can't say anything other than that I'm afraid.
www.vagcat.com is good for parts and part numbers and general information about how things fit together.
Obviously this place is good for similar information.
If you want the proper manuals, Bentley make them but they're pricey.

id agree with sam about elsawin, it is dealer only software and as such its illegal to actually have a copy yourself. but i happen to have been lucky enough to see elsawin in action and it is certainly useful, although its not as comprehensive as some people think.
to be honest, if you have the DTC (diagnostic trouble codes) and you google them, 9/10 times you will find out quickly what it means and theres often threads and supporting info related to them, which can help you solve the problem as well as identifying it.

Thanks guys I'll have a think about that. I know haynes are just about to release a manual but it dosen't cover the v6 or the 4 wheel drive which means it's not much use to me.............................
Sorted!!!! nitemare to get to but a quick clean of the plug and it's as good as gold
Impressed that it only took a clean to sort it - good work!
So was I but it's because I brought the parts ready now if I had just decided to clean it and didn't have the parts you can bet ya life it would be ker-nackered!!!! oh well something else to be kept in the garage just incase

i had the reverse problem, my temp gauge was doing its nut, got a new temp sender for £18, problem solved.... i think this is one of the simplest fixes on these cars... if only everything else was...
