Car: Audi A3, 2.0 TDI semi-auto, 70k,

Problem: About 2 months ago the engine managment light came on, i had a rough idle and the belt began to squeal, took it to Audi for diagnostics and they said i needed a new throttle body, tensioner and Aux belt @ £600+.... I bought the parts and fitted them myself, Audi had removed the fuse so once i figured that out the engine managment light went off, the belt stopped squealing but the idle was still rough..... the tensioner on the belt was bouncing and the squeal soon came back. We have run diagnostics on the car which came up with no faults.

Today the pulley on the alternator snapped off and the belt also came off.

If anyone has any ideas on what this could be it would be much appreciated. A video of the idle is shown below:

Have you checked the alternator pulley. If it has a one way pulley it may have siezed. This is very common and often snaps the belt and makes the belt jump about.

I changed the alternator pulley and this solved the problem of the belt jumping about and the car is running near perfect... just a slight missfire on idle... : (

Did you replace the IMF / throttle body, or just replace the fuse ?
has it had a cam kit fitted lately by any chance ?

I replaced the throttle body and then the fuse, maybe the throttle body was ok, who knows! I had the cambelt changed fairly recently (before these problems came up)...Why's that?

Thanks
