Hi all. I have a 1997 Audi A6 2.4i V6 and all has been well till recently. It has been irratic idling at tick over and when i am pulling away it has a severe lack of power. Also when i am cruising at any speed the car is juddering along the road quite badly. I have got 9 fault codes out of it, one of them being the MAF sensor. I replaced that and still the same. The codes are as follows.

1: 17978: Engine Start Blocked by Immobiliser : P1570

2: 16534: Oxygen (Lambda) Seneor Bank2 Sensor1: Malfunction in
Circuit : P0150

3: 16514: Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor Bank1 Sensor1: Malfunction in
Circuit : P0130

4: 17746: Camshaft Position Sensor (G40) Open or Short to Plus : P1338

5: 17537: Fuel Trim: Bank2 (Mult): System too Rich : P1129

6: 17535: Fuel Trim: Bank 1(Mult): System too Rich : P1127

7: 16505: Throttle Position Sensor (G69): Implausible Signal : P0121

8: 17545: Fuel trim: Bank 1 (Add): System too Rich : P1137

9: 17547: Fuel Trim: Bank2 (Add) : System too Rich : P1139

After fitting the MAF sensor a week ago i wiped all the codes from it and all these have come back. All these codes came up the last time also with the MAF code which is not there now. Has anyone any ideas before i go replacing all these parts. Should also mention the MIL light has never came on at all during the fault.

What is the engine code? It can be found on the white sticker in the spare wheel bay.

Ignore error 1, this just means at some point the engine start was blocked, I get this error from time to time.

Errors 2,3,5,6,8,9 I think are all related to the erratic idle and lack of power. It seems that the engine is running very rich. Does it behave like this from start up or only when warm? The reason I ask is looking at the error codes it would seem that the lambda circuit is causing the engine to run rich, but at startup the ECU runs in open loop mode whereby it ignores what the lambda sensors are telling it.

Did you use VAG-Com to get these errors? If so you can use that to do a number of checks on the various sensors.

You can't PM me until you have 10 posts so I will send you a PM with my email address. Send me your email and I will send you the docs. I will also send you some info on errors 4 and 7 as these sensors may also be faulty.

Cheers

Hi Ian and thanks for your response. The car is like this all the time from initial start up in morning till i stop the car at night. I have emailed you and hope i can get this sorted somehow.

Should have also said i used an Autel maxidiag unit and it has worked well for me on all other cars i have software from and other VW/Audi i have used it on too. I just have never seen that amount of codes at the one time.

what is the temperature guage reading?

if it not 90 degrees when the engine is warm the engine can run rich.

if you have vag-com check the temperatures prior to starting the engine in the morning. water temp should be within a degree or 2 of air temp.

if is say 15 degrees below change the water temp sensor (between bulkhead and engine block - blue in colour)

The other thing to check is that you seem to have lost a lot of sensors at the same time, so have you lost an earth or other connection?
