Can you help ? Had my X reg A6 for two years - still enjoying it ! This site has already helped me fix my Indicator Relay switch - Thanks.
Have recently had repairs to car where Battery dis -connected.There are three digital panel displays in Speedo area. ( 1. Mileage and trip computer at middle bottom of speedometer, 2. Service indicator and Temperature in middle of two dials and 3. Date and time at middle bottom of Rev Counter ) All previously highlighted in digital displays in red. Now 1 & 3 are barely visible and not highlighted in Red. - No change in 2. Tried disconnecting battery again for 5 mins - no difference. Are there Bulbs at the back of these displays or individual fuses for the two out of the three displays ? Is it an expensve replacement ? - any thoughts ? - Help.

Highline dash panel insert1 - Main beam warning lamp2 - TCS/ESP warning lamp3 - Trailer turn signal warning lamp, only if trailer hitch fittedA - 32-pin blue connectorB - 32-pin green connectorC - 20-pin red connector file:///D:/Program%20Files/ElsaWin/graphics/wi/A90-0074.png
This is the rear of your dash insert and there are only 3 bulbs. The rear illumination is a cold cathode devide and I'm afraid is is a very expensive unit to change, Used Audi parts specialists sell them with a warrantee ( 30 days) I read that there is a company that repairs these but I have be unable to find them and the guy did not email the details to me. Peter,
Thanks for thoughts on the display problem. Doesn't sound like great news and I have to admit, was slightly confused by the start of the message. Can I assume that the "cold cathode divide" covers all Dash lighting panels ? Originally I said that the displays on the speedo and Revcounter were out. I didn't notice that the the top middle is also out - eg the high beam light etc. How can the temp gage ( Bottom middle ) still be working fine ?
Also - to add to the puzzle, I took it to a friend who plugged in a fault analsis device to my car. No faults were reported, but during the analysis the display panels on the Speedo and rev-counter lit up ( in red, as they should be ) with every symbol in them - almost as a test. This suggests that they should be working fine, but after this "test" - the panels reverted to before - unlit and very difficult to read !!
May be forced to take it into Audi - and pay their hourly rate - to ask them to run another analysis test ???

Any thoughts ?

Brian

Check the cabling to the dimmer control it sounds as if the dimmer is right down of the chuster controller is not listening. Regards Peter
