Wing Mirror Heater faults

Hi,
I'm new here but have had my Touareg for 3 years.
Last year one of my mirror heaters failed, but it was replaced under warranty, we are now just out of the warranty period and my other mirror heater has gone.
I know it's going to be expensive to sort out because they changed the entire unit last year. Does anybody know anything which might be helpful?

9 out of 10 times it's just the element in the glass that fails. Shouldn't be too expensive, and u can replace yourself. Just gently pry away using a plastic or nylon bone tool. Best to warm it up a little too beforehand to ease removal. To replace, connect up the 2 wires-either way round, and push on!
