I may have to go to a far away place called wimbledon park, in a big white van, to collect an item of furniture. i will also be going to shenfield and oxted. i will then go to wimbledon , then straight to the m4 and home.
Will this route result in me getting into trouble over this congestion charge zone that i have heard so much about, or will i not need to enter it ? I am just a bit concerned because a big van is probably charged quite a lot these days.
Talking of the smoke, my brother used to be a courier there. he started in about '81, in an old escort van, and did it for about 9 years, 4 of which were with thames television, collecting news tapes, on a motorbike. I use to go out with him now and again, and some of the short cuts he knew were amazingly scary, going through a multi story car park for instance.

If you come in along any of the M4, M3 or A3 you should be absolutely fine. :)

Welcome to the big city. :D

i will be travelling from oxted to kenley, croyden, mitcham, merton, i will then go not quite to putney, and straight onto the m4 around kew. not looking forward to it, but have been through london loads of times in the past, but not since the congestion charge was brought in.

You'll be coming through my stomping grounds then. It's really not that bad! (Or have I just grown THAT accustomed to it?!)

It should be OK this week thanks to the school holidays - Merton & Wimbledon are plagued with roadworks (gas main replacements), but other than that it should be OK.

ive got too used to not seeing loads of cars on the roads.

I also live somewhere fairly quiet, where a tractor with three cars behind it is a major traffic jam. Have an office in North London too, and over the ten years I've been driving there I still haven't got used to the sheer number of vehicles everywhere, especially on the M3/M4/M25/A406/A205 etc at the wrong time of day. Prepare yourself for being cut up, people pulling out in front of you when you least expect it, and general rudeness on the road - just seems to be the way it is there.
For those of you who live and/or work there please don't take offence, none is meant. zollaf, prepare yourself for a different world.

Any city centre I'm afraid, unless you're in Wales, oddly - they seem to have manners.

lol, it's really not that bad, just prepare to be mildly amused by how inept some people are.

If you ever needed proof of how dumb mankind can be, you need look no further than the driving public!

The london driving public, most other places are ok tbh. I hate driving in London - its an easy way to play spot the idiot anyway.
