Hi people, i've registered on here because i'm looking at buying a MK5 R32 in the next few months.

I have a budget of £23k and was wanting some advice really.

I know i want leather and DSG but are there any other options worth going for?

Is DSG worth the extra £1300 ?

Should i go for the standard seats in leather or the recaro ones in leather? Is there much difference?

My advice is always the same. If you can go try out both. See which is most comfortable/looks the best.

Listen to opinions of people that have had the car for a period of time, but you should make the choice it will be your car ;)

Good advice.

It's that V6 engine noise which has won me over.

I refuse to buy anything that isn't Jap or German so my choices were...

New Honda Civic Type R
VW Golf GTi
VW Golf R32
Audi A3 S Line (3.2 V6 or 2.0 T FSI)
Mazda 3 MPS

Hello

A good choice of car.

Is that civic typr r your current car?

My bro used to have one but sold it at a profit as thare is now renewed interest in that model due to the new one not being as good to drive.

so you should have plenty of cash

Interesting choices. TG commented that the new Type R is not quite as quick as the old.

I am pretty keen on Japanese motors as well. Still learning to live with my German choice but getting there ;).

The last few have been Hondas, Accord and Civic, nothing manic like the Type R mind.

Nice cars :approve:

An 05 plate with Air Con. Just notched 30,000 miles and reving as sweet as a nut.

I've been watching R32 videos on youtube like a 16 year old watching porn:D

I'm used to a very vocal engine with my Type R so the R32 was always a favourite for me.

I hope i'm making the right choice. I test drove a mk5 Golf GTi and found it a lovely drive but not as exciting as my Type R. It was all very civil and grown up!

There is of course the Seat Leon Cupra which i class as German now.

Same engine as Golf GTi but with 40 more bhp! It's not far off Audi S3 pace but £8,000 less!

Well only my opinion but 6's and 8's and probably 12's sound soo much nicer than 4. IMHO of course.

...and reving as sweet as a nut.

...some 3000 revs higher than most other cars.

Leon Cupra is nice, but not as well built as the R32. The diesel Cupra is even nicer, but again, let down by the interior quality.

If I were buying I'd go for a clean, not thrashed (haha) MKIV R32, the MKV styling doesn't do anything for me :(

Check youtube for the twinturbo conversion, but be warned, you'll require a change of underpants shortly after.

I'm really after a new or nearly new car so the mk4 R32 is out of the question. It's not really my cup of tea either.

From what i've gathered so far.......

Leon Cupra is fast but has cheap interior

Audi S3 is ridiculously overpriced considering it's just a Golf GTi with 4 wheel drive and more power.

New Civic Type R i like. It sounds awesome, handling is pin sharp, looks good, Honda reliability BUT it is slightly slower than the old one which i drive now.

Golf GTi is just about perfect. Only thing it lacks is power.

So i guess that leaves me with the mk5 R32. Powerful with 250 PS, sounds awesome, very well built and undercuts the Audi S3 by £3,000.

Like i said, The Focus ASBO, Astra Stella Artois and Renaultsport Megane are all out of the question.

Are there any mk5 Golf R32 owners on this forum? I'd like some pics to drool over :D
