a6 1.8 turbo petrol whuring noise

i have a uk 03 plate a6. when i turn engine on there is a whuring noise which changes pitch when revved or i move the steering wheel. it seems to quieten after a while. any ideas as to the probable cause?

check the power steering fluid level,if low, top up and check underneath for leaks.
if non found, recheck fluid level daily-weekly, depending upon mileage,

Could be the poly V belt tensioner but it is difficult to say without hearing the noise.
