Rear LED number plate

Are rear led number plate lights legal? Ive seen them on the new lexus and bmw's but was thinking about instaling these myself. I could understand them being illegal if they are red, blue or directly shining into the driver behind you therefore dazzling them.

Hi there, dunno is the short answer, but I'd think so as they do brake light LED's now.
I have a thread somewhere under my username "definitive led" or sumthin similar where I installed these.

im running led's in my rear number plate right now! just using a pair of cheapo's from eBay, not too bright but look really modern,
in my case i needed some very shallow units to fit but definately worth it.

As for legality, none of my cars with them fitted have failed an MOT!
