View Full Version : Anyone with a Match built in Wolfsburg ?

I know its nonsense, but I've always felt Wolfsburg built cars are better built than other factories (hence why the high end Golf's are built there ) Also spotted that majority of others (including mine) are from Mosel but several SE s I ve seen are from Wolfsburg. No clear pattern to it.

So which factory was your MK VI SE / Match built in as I ve yet to see a Wolfsburg Match car ?

(Also - an observation I ve made is that Wolfsburg cars have their VIN plates on the passenger B pillar whereas the Mosel (and other factories) are all on the driver's side (a quicker way to spot a Wolsburg car than looking on the VIN) )

Yep, my 1.6 DSG BM Match is a 'W'.

However, despite having it for only three weeks I can report that the build quality you perceive from Wolfsburg cars still allows the 'B' pillars to creak and the drivers visor to buzz!

Thanks, maybe they build the BM s there aswell. Now we'll just have to look at reliability build quality over the next few years ;)

Then why were all Golf 4, 4 Motion V6 Highline’s built in Volkswagens Bratislava plant? Most Golf TDI’s seem to be built in Belgium.

VW's have been built in many countries over the years, just check your VIN number the 1st character will give its location.

1 = USA
2 = Canada
3 = Mexico
4 = USA
9 = Brazil
J = Japan
K = Korea
S = England
W = Germany
Z = Italy

and the 10th character

W = Wolfsburg, Germany
A = ngolstadt, Germany
B = Brussels, Belgium
C = Taipei, Taiwan
D = Bratislava, Slovakia
E = Emden, Germany
G = Steyr/Graz, Austria
H = Hannover, Germany
J = Jakarta, Indonesia
K = Karmann, Osnabruck Germany
M = Puebla, Mexico
N = Neckarsulm, Germany
P = Mosel, Germany
R = Martorell, Barcelona, Spain
S = Stuttgart, Germany
T = Kvasiny, Czech Republic
U = Uitenhage, South Africa
V = Palmela, Portugal (previously Westmoreland, USA)
X = Poznan, Poland
Y = Pamplona, Spain (SEAT)
1 = Gyor, Hungary
2 = Changchun, China
4 = Curitiba, Brazil

Mine was built in Wolfsburg, Germany. ;)

and mine - W & W so Wolfsburg it is ! :D

better result than my last car which was a mercedes "built" in south africa - what a bag of s***e that was

I'm entirely sure that despite manufacturers' claims to the contrary there can be a wide variance in standards between different factories - sometimes with surprising results - didn't the Nissan plant in Sunderland develop a reputation as of of the best ?

It could be the 11th that if your counting each character the 1K is one character combined really.

Mine is

VIN: WVWZZZ1KZAW******

Model Designation: Golf 2.0
Model: GOLF
Restictions: Golf
Year: 2010
Sales Type: 5K188L
Engine Code: CBB
Transmission Code: KXZ
FinalDrive Indent: 6S
Interior Trim Code: XH
Roof Colour: P6
Exterior Colour: P6

from the VIN number search on ETKA. I'm trying to make a VIN number app you just type in your VIN number and it tells you all the details, which I've talked about on here before. ;)

You maybe right as I'm only going by the info you can read or download of the web and you will find that most of it is old pre 2000 and the pdf file is too big to upload.

It shows character 7 and 8 as Model and Position combined the 2 lines join to make e.g. 1E = Cabrio, 1H = Golf/Jetta/GTi, 3B = Passat, 1Y = New Beetle, 1K = New Jetta, 1J = New Golf/GTi/R32, 7L = Tourag, 3D = Phaeton, 70 = Eurovan

Have you found any new sites Crasher? If you have please post the links? ;)

Right, I don't really get this lol. Mine is:

WVWZZZ1KZ8M1...

So I have W for Germany, and M for Puebla, Mexico. (assuming 1K is one character :S ) And if it's not, 8 means bugger all.

Yes well I pasted your VIN into my app and it shows

Country of Origin: Germany
Manufacturer: Volkswagen
Model & Position; Jetta
Assembly Plant: Puebla, Mexico
Model Year: 2008

7 = 1 and 8 = K
1K is Jetta as from 2006. ;)

I'm a little confused as to how it originated in Germany, but was built in Mexico.

I reckon it's probably trying to say that VW are a German manufacturer, but the car itself was built at their plant in Mexico

Choose any make of VAG so you get to the main vehicle list, at the top of the screen below the shaded out printer icon is a icon that is called “Display function list” when you put the mouse pointer over it, click on this and the menu drops down and then select “catalogue information” then “V pages” and then in the V pages menu you will see “VIN NO” and the information I posted is shown there.

Ok I took mine for its first service today, they didn't have a courtesy car not that I was bothered I had nothing else to do. So I just drank their coffee and browsed the VIN numbers on the cars in the cark park.

Now from what I remember all the GTIs/GTDs and some TDIs were all W made in Wolfsburg, Germany. Some TDI's B - Brussels, Belgium. The Eos's were E - Emden, Germany. The Polo's Y - Pamplona, Spain (SEAT). The Passat's U - Uitenhage, South Africa. The Tiguan's A - Ingolstadt, Germany.

There were no Golf Estates on the parking lot but there was one in the showroom which was M - Puebla, Mexico. There was one but I can't remember the model after look at more than 100 cars for a couple of hours that was G - Steyr/Graz, Austria and P - Mosel, Germany and V - Palmela, Portugal.

There were a few 11 plate cars on the lot awaiting the March pickup.

I could have sworn the EOS was only made in Palmela Portugal, I have never seen anything except Wolfsburg built Tiguan’s and I have never seen a South African built Passat 3C.

Yep, my Match TDI (manual, winter pack) was built in Wolfsburg. No problems at all to report build wise (6000 miles), very happy with the car.
