Hi Guys,
Gonna be getting the 3.0Tdi in a few months, just doing my homework beforehand. Does anyone know where I can buy a gallon or so of Ad-blue? was thinking it would be handy to be able to top it up myself when necessary rather than have to go back to a dealer every time the tank runs low.

Also does anyone know if its possible to run the engine without it? I understand it may go into limp mode, but there seems to be some stories in the states of not being able to start these cars at all if the tank runs empty! which could be pretty nasty if your the other side of the country on holiday or something when it decides to run out...

I wonder what the warranty implication is if you run dry intentionally?

Do you have any figures as to what the consumption rate could be? That would influence the price you pay as a bulk purchase would generate a good saving.

I wouldnt intentionally run dry on it, but I do realise that there is only a limited capacity in the tank. Does anyone know how long one tank is suppost to last?

Why do you need Ad-blue? Isn't it for trucks?

For NOx gas reduction (I think). Its on some of the new 3.0TDI motors.

Ad-blue is on all the new A4 series of 3.0TDi as standard. Its held in a tank near the fuel tank, and is injected into the exhaust to break down NOx. Just spoke to parts at Audi...Can get 10 Litres of it for £18. Thats enough to treat on average 12,000 miles, but its topped up anyway as part of a normal service.

Steady On !! HaHa! With experience of Adblue on trucks, if the tank goes empty it gives a fault lamp on dash and reduced power until refilled. It leaves a white crusty residue also, around any areas where it may have spilled. No double entondres either!!
