Hi,

Skoda Fabia 1.4v 16v 2005 - 26500 miles

I'm having some problems with my Fabia, hopefully somebody can point me in the right direction.

Last weekend I broke down on the motorway. One minute I was ticking along at 70mph, the ECU warning light on the dash began flashing and the needle dropped 70...60..50...40...0 The AA patrol hooked up his diagnostics and declared that it was a problem with the throttle position sensor and towed me home.

I've hooked up VAGCOM to the car and dumped the codes:

16686 - Cylinder 2: Misfire Detected
P0302 - 000 - - - Intermittent
17952 - Angle Sensor 1 for Throttle Actuator (G187): Signal too Large
P1544 - 000 - - - Intermittent
17580 - Throttle Actuator (G188) Signal too Low
P1172 - 000 - - - Intermittent
17962 - Throttle Actuator (J338): Conditions for Basic Settings not Met
P1554 - 000 - - - Intermittent

I think the misfire is from long ago when the ignition coil failed and I blindly replaced it - so I cleared out all of the codes to check what new codes were generated.

Now the car turns over happily, though doesn't start. No new codes are being raised at all. My local Skoda dealer suggested I remove the spark plugs and dry them (which I've done), though it's still not starting.

I can't see why the throttle actuator would make the car stop dead - limp along maybe, but not die completely. I'm under the impression that something else is at fault.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received!

were the plugs wet with fuel when you took them out ?
