Hi all,

I am a bit of a newbie on here and was wondering if anybody could possibly give me some advice.

I own a 1.9tdi 130bhp Passat on a 2004 plate.

While on the motorway the other day while stuck in traffic my glow plugs started flashing and the engine workshop sign come up. The engine was not warmed up at this stage, the car didn't go into limp home mode or anything like that and all of a sudden once I started moving again the warning light just vanished and it has been fine since.

I am presuming the onboard computer would have a record of this so if anybody has a diag code reader and lives in the bham/Halesowen area then if you could help me out I would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance

Most likely a fault with the rear brake bulbs, or
foot-brake switch.

do you have a chip box in there?

i agree, check that both low level brake lights are working.
if both are off, try putting a new bulb in one side, any side.
if switch is ok,then that should take the flashing warning off,
and simply fit a second bulb to the other side.
(the glow plug light flashes when BOTH bulbs have failed,
but stays off with one working)
on the other hand,if you have a flashing glow plug light and brake lights are working, try changing the brake switch on the top of the brake pedal.
it's about £8-£10 from the dealer.
this should sort your problem, although i have read,i'm sure, of a similar fault
showing up with a clutch pedal switch?
regards,
stewy.
