Clutch problems??

Hello all,

Can anyone help me? The clutch pedal on my Mk3 1.6 golf (1995) was feeling like it was "sticking" when coming off the clutch. I decided to fit a new clutch cable as it was nearing the end of its life anyway. However when I fitted the new cable there is now no bit point at all, and I can't get any "drive" from the car? I have re-fitted the cable 4 times and still no clutch engaging?? So I fitted the old one back on.... and still the car is useless? Can anyone help me, does this sound terminal for my clutch and do I need to by a new clutch??

i thinks there's two types,self adjusting and not! cables that is,could be you have the wrong one? missing a grommet some where,could also be the ratchet arm on the gearbox needs pulling back(big bar not to hard!!!) not heard of it on a vw before tho!
