Hi!

I've just become the new, proud owner of a 2008 (58) A4 Avant 1.8T.

I've yet to take any pics, but I will get them posted as soon as I take them.

I'm looking at installing a fiscon bluetooth kit, and wondered if there is anyone in the Essex area, that has done this before, and/or has vcds that they'd be willing to meet up and earn a bit of cash helping me get the new programming active. :)

Looking forward to becoming an active part of the community.

Hi,

It's a Lava Grey pearl effect colour.

Spec wise, it's the 1.8T petrol, (160PS) S-Line.
Bit's that have been added; cruise control, parking plus.
Bit's that have been removed; rear model and engine badges.

Yeah, I like it without them. Don't know if I'd've bothered to have them removed myself, but pleased the 1st owner did.

I was told by the dealer that all I needed was a piece of dental floss if I wanted to debadge myself ?

Hair dryer to soften the sticky pad a little, dental floss or fishing wire behind the badge and it will come off. You will then need to wash the residue off. Troublesome residue will come off when wiped with some WD-40. Then, wax the area you removed the bedges from.

dental floss sounds about right. Although I did see it logged on Audi's computer as a, "factory option", wouldn't get that from dental floss. :) no doubt Audi would charge far more than dental floss would cost!

So back to my query about Bluetooth, I have my fiscon and vagcom arriving tomorrow. (Im familiar with vag com as I used it with my B5 passat.)
I've done a search and haven't seen a visual guide to retrofitting the Bluetooth to the B8, am I missing it, or do I need to take lots of pictures tomorrow?

The factory option is free. I'm picking up my new A4 Avant 2.0 TDI Multitronic in black on Wednesday morning.

Thanks. I'm currently have a A4 3.0 Quattro on loan from Audi UK because of the delay in building my car.

I can see the pics. Is the best way to add pics to a post is via the albums and the add the URL?

Still cannot see anything. Dunno how that's happened. I think photobucket is the best. Not sure of any other method.

I agree, I think brilliant black is better than phantom black and will probable take polishing and waxing better IMHO.

Thanks.

Top tip. If you press the reset button under the windscreen wiper lever 4 times, you get a digital speedo in the instrument cluster.

You're going with the soft & gentle running in philosophy then?

fez716

don't be too gentle you'll spoil it, done a thousand miles in mine now and it gets some stick it won't do it any harm

I think that it does need some gentle running in IMHO. What experience do other people have?

Gun it from the start.

If you have a R8 that's OK because the engines are fully tested at FULL power with the exhaust pipes glowing red.

Just read this:

Leave factory fill of oil for the first year or 10,000 miles. For the first 1,000 miles do not exceed 3,000rpm, but make sure you reach 3,000rpm regularly.

For the next 1,000 miles (to 2,000 miles) do not exceed 3,500rpm, but make sure you reach 3,500rpm regularly.

For the next 1,000 miles (to 3,000 miles) do not exceed 4,000rpm, but make sure you reach 4,000rpm regularly. For the next 1,000 miles (to 4,000 miles) do not exceed 4,500rpm, but make sure you reach 4,500rpm at least a couple of times a week.

After that, no limit, but make sure you continue to hit 4,500rpm through the gears several times a week.

I'd advise you both to do some reading. You're issuing ill informed advice and it's people like you who cause vehicles to have longer term running issues.

Brand new engines/turbos need bedding in.

I too was under the impression that diesels should be worked hard from the start otherwise the seals don't bed so well. I've never had a diesel so haven't posted about this. I am interested in the rights and wrongs just in case I do get one at some point.

I also apprecaite that manufacturers recommendations aren't always the best just as in the same way they're not tuned the best to start with.

I have done plenty reading in the past, and just like every subject on the internet, the split is 50/50. Some say run it hard, some say take it easy.

I'll leave it up to the OP what he decides to do. I'll continue to drive my cars on the first day like I intend to for the rest of the time I own it.

ScottyUK

I don't think there's a right answer as it could depend of what you consider is best for the car.

e.g. if you're keeping if for just a few years then maybe ragging it will give a better performing car .... but one that over time will be loose and rattly.

If you're keeping it for 5+ years then perhaps slow and steady is the way and where you might miss out a little on power but it'll last longer.

I'm not saying the above is the way it is just pointing out that different people want different things out of there cars and hence what's "best" depends.

a diesel that is run in too cold and gentle will glaze and therefore be dopey for the rest of its days, and for your information my dealer told me to drive it hard from day 1 so who am i to argue

I've always capped my revs, until the engine is warm, regardless of whether it is diesel or petrol, after which time, it's been driven properly, with a periodic italian tune (normally a sprint down the m67/m60)

Which dealer told you to drive your car hard from day 1?
