Today my friend's A5 3.0 tdi quattro started sounding like an articulated lorry when he accelerated. It was quite obvious as the engine is usually very smooth and quiet. Suddenly the noise stopped and the engine noise returned to normal. As the journey progressed the noise returned but sounded more like a old 4 pot diesel car. Now after restarting, the engine is quiet and refined. During all this there didn't seem to be any loss of power. Can't figure out if this is a matter of serious concern?
