Can anyone STEER (being the word)me in the right direction on my b5 passat suspension.
The car seems to be very twitchy at speed, and wanders slightly on the motorway, made even worse by uneven road surfaces.
I`ve replaced all eight front suspension arms, track rod ends, front and rear shocks, and even adjusted the steering rack.
The car has covered 165,000 miles and still runs like a dream, but this is driving me nuts:aargh4:
Do you think changing the the rear axel bushes might be my best bet,if so any tips welcome.

If you are getting a thumping sound, from the rear,
over pot-holes, ..that's the best indicator of rear bushes.
It would not do any harm to change them at that mileage,
as they would be well worn and its an easy job.

Is there any slack in the steering system, when you rock
the steering-wheel, and observe the front wheels?

yaman you`ve made my day.
Yes my b5 passat does thump over pot holes, and come to think of it, it feels like a forklift at times.
That rear wheel steering efect.
Can i change theese rear bushes one at a time,or do i need to drop the whole axel and do both.

One at a time is best, it stops the axle from jumpin all
over the place.

Have the body on stands, wheel off, trolley-jack under
strut to control movement.

Its held to the shell with 3 bolts and to the arm with
1 through-bolt.

Mark the alignment before you take it off.

Just replaced my rear bushes - for information the 3 retaining bolts are 18mm, the main through bolt is 21mm - you can only get a socket on one side of the bolt so you'll need a 21mm spanner too.
