Hi folks, im new here and plan on spending alot of time on it in the future.
I am possibly going to purchase a 2004 audi A4 s-line. The gentleman tells me it is the first of the new shape wide mouth front type. I thought these did not come out untill 2005 ?
Can anyone confirm this is true ?
Thank You in advance for taking your time to read this

Ill check that its not had a mod front on it as best as i can but ill know by the rear tail lights stretching over onto the tailgate, is that correct ? I was reading on wikipedia that they came out in 2004 too. Its just I dont want my pants pulled down lol. Just hoped someone may have told me its common knowledge lol

Good idea. I wont be able to get pictures as its quite a distance away but ill need the reg to get an hpi check done on it and ill get the chassis of that. Do you know the chassis for the b7 ? Am i correct in saying Audi starts WAWZZZ or is that Skoda ?

Seen a few 54 plate B7's so a very early car could have been registered in 2004 I think.

Is a 54 plate 2004 ? Sorry, I am from Northern Ireland. Our number plates are all different. Eg. PXI 7903. Dont ask me to explain, i dont know lol

Ah right, get you now. I really need a chassis number to help dont i ? I am thinking on my vag com auto scan menu, it asks for the model numbers after the WAUZZZ?? Surely that will confirm for sure ?

Yes, you can tell from the VIN number, or just looking at a picture of the car!

1st build date for B7 version is from 1st November 2004. At very earliest that would be a very late December 2004 delivery. Probably only a handful of Demo cars delivered in 2004.

Chassis numbers for A4 can be deciphered as follows

example : WAUzzz8E*5A400000 (* = another number or a z)

WAU = Audi
zzz = (not relevant - filler codes)
8E = A4 model series (both B6 and B7)
* = usually another random single number or a 'z' - not sure of relevance (don't get this number mixed up with the year designator)
5 = Model year (4 is 2004, 5 is 2005, 6 is 2006 etc)
A = Build Plant (A = Ingolstadt)
last 6 numbers are the unique serial number of the car.

These last 6 numbers are very important in 2005 model year cars as vehicles up to 199999 are B6 models. B6 2005 model year started in June 2004 ! - Model year and calendar year are quite a few months out.

Numbers from 400000 onwards in 2005 m.y are B7 models.
B7 models can also be told apart from B6 models by the split tail-lights (B7s have lamps mounted to the bootlid - or tailgate. B6s don't)

Don't forget the trapezoid on the steering wheel- unless someone has done a steering wheel retrofit too.

Thats great info about chassis numbers, thanks for spending the time in all that. Equally but more simply, I forgot about the steering wheel. Great thanks. I was talking to my local TPS today snd he was also saying that they csme out in September so first things first, ill need to see it and get the reg

Did they ever bring out a b7 with a 1.9 engine ? 130 bhp ?

B7 wasnt available with the 130 1.9 engine, a lower power 1.9 was available though.

Mmm, ill have to see what the cars like. Supposidly a late 2004 Sline B7 with a 130 - 1.9tdi ???? Sounds great if you ask me lol but even if she was 115 id be happy enough.

2005 as per the title of the section you have posted the question in.

Not necessarily so. There would have been a certain number of 2004 B7's, press cars, demo's and early orders etc.

Also, the B6 forum says 2002-2005 and I know of several people with 'Y' plate B6's (early 2001).

The forum year ranges seem to be more of a guide than actual years of manufacture.

I think the B7 1.9 TDi was a 105 bhp version. The 1.9 TDi 130 bhp engine from the B6 was replaced by the 2.0 TDi 140 bhp engine in the B7.
