GTI FESTIVAL
Santa Pod Raceway
Sunday 8th July 2007
http://www.vwaction.co.uk/gtiframe.html

The 2007 GTi Festival for the show that's dubbed the coolest!
Why the coolest? Ask anyone, it just is. It is simply the show for all
water cooled VW enthusiasts. For many years, thousands of visitors to
the GTI Festival have sampled the laid back atmosphere. 2007 is
actually the 15th running of the event.
Over the years the show has seen some stunning vehicles and some superb
events. The venue has changed a few times, but for years now, the Santa
Pod Raceway facility has meant that the focus of the show is on an
accurate quarter-mile sprint, which is open to all-comers all day long.
Apart from the fantastic value for money 'as many runs as you like, all
day' deal, there is also the fact that you are driving on a superb
purpose built surface, and using world record standard calibrated
timing. We also would like to pay tribute to, and remind you of, the
fire/safety staff, medical staff, and marshals, all of whom are there
for your safety. They are the most practiced and efficient staff in
Europe. Basically, you are getting the absolute best available when you
sprint at the GTI Festival. But it ís not all about the quarter mile.
Some will come to show their cars, others to look at the show cars, and
some will just come to spend, spend, spend, at the trade stands.
But why ever you come, just come. And enjoy!

I'm there with Briskoda - gunning for a low 14 second time down the 1/4 - hopefully without breaking anything this time....

Cool...havn't really raced with my car but it sounds like if its a 1/4 mile in 14 seconds, its pretty good!?

I've got a Bora 1.6 16v myself, what do you think i can make of it?

Sounds like you broke something last time you raced, hope it wasn't something too serious mate!

So whats Briskoda? Is that another club or something?

I'm hoping to go on the 8th, but will know for sure in a week or so.

14 seconds is good for a diesel yes. But then it's around 250bhp so should be capable of those times

A Bora 16v should do around a 17 flat in standard trim I imagine

I snapped a driveshaft - Quite serious and recovery to Devon was not cheap. :(

Briskoda is a Skoda forum - www.briskoda.net (http://www.briskoda.net)

Steve

nope..... you can attend as you wish, lets be clear here....

places like gti international/vw festival are EVENTs

a meet, generally, is an arranged meet between forum members at a specific time and place...

you dont HAVE to have a modified motor, mines completley stock and i'm the organiser for our events ;)

In that case i will attempt to persued the misses that its a good idea and see you all there.

Thanks for the quick response and lets hope the weather holds out for the day, not getting much traction in the wet :(

Cheers
Steve

Do you mean they won't allow you to run at all? If the weather is looking dodgy I won't bother going then. :(

a drag strip is a dangerous place in the wet

the water floats ontop of the track prep and the glue and turns the place into and ice skating rink

Thanks for clarifying - I will keep my eye on the forecast then as I'm primarily going for some drag runs, not the show itself.

well i ended up going,

was a great day, weather held off, some really nice examples of golfs :) and a few v nice S3's . Also got to see a rocket car, completed the 1/4 in 6 seconds.

Decided not to run the strip as got there a little late and thought i would get spanked, badly!
Anyone know what an a3 2.0tfsi dsg should do in 1/4 mile?? i am wondering whether i should or not? I know its only for fun but still :D

might go somewhere less serious than santapod for first run,

altho, kudos to the guy who ran the 1.9tdi jetta, only did one run and im sure they just kept driving, but well played :)

Great day, id recommend to anyone!

This was me on the startline. Put in a couple of low 15s, best being a 15.08 but I can get much quicker with the power I have. I just seemed to be lacking somewhere.... My motor should be capable of 14s without any issues at all.

Some great runs from the fabia! :)

I would like to go to volksfest but dont think i will be able to convince the misses 2 weeks in a row, have to go watch a friend perform at a music festival in coventry.

Seems like there a couple of events in August though 18th etc... Will make sure im there for them :)
