V6 4motion Starting Problem

Right chaps had my 4motion nearly a year had it serviced 2 months ago by VW, semmed to be running all good, then last week the emissions light came on. Since monday it has know developed a new problem when you start it up, It fires up the revs go up above 1000 rpm then dip way low to 400/600 rpm and sometimes it just stalls. If you give a bit of gas it doesnt stall and with the emissions light it is running a little but rich. Has anyone got any ideas on what the fault could be and another point that I am concerned about is that the cooling fans dont seem to be running all the time but cut in and out and run fast.

you need to get a scan done for fault codes ...............
