RPM rises from 1400 to 1500 rpm

The car is A4 1.9 TDI 130 multitronic. When I'm cruising with about 80km/h engine RPM slightly rises when car is on 1400RPM for 100-200RPM every 2-3 secs and falls back down on 1400rpm. Is it my beloved multitronic gearbox or something else?

is it me or are those revs quite low to be doing 50mph??

I think its normal for that speed when you drive in automatic mode (D). On 120km/h rpm are about 2000. When I drive 170km/h on a freeway revs are 2800
