ESP - I've read about the faults, now it's my turn

I've just been reading the faults being listed here on VW Golf and other cars related to ABS/ ESP.

I've got the dreaded orange car skid light up (ESP fault?) and I'm taking car in for diagnostic. I hope the dealership will look favourably on a consistent dealership service history and low mileage (out of warranty). I wonder why more is not known about this fault? Not very happy if they try to charge £1500.... Thanks to all others for the information provided so far on this fault.

My advice is to make sure you are sat down before they tell you a price ^.^
