Front end knock???

Hey guys
I've got a MK3 2.0 GTI the problem ive got is im getting a single front end knock when im pulling off. It also occurs when i apply left hand lock when reversing.
The m.o.t is due friday and wanna try and get it sorted b4 it goes in if i can.
