View Full Version : Oil level warning - 3 times in 14,000 miles

Hi All

Can anybody please confirm that having had my A5 for 4 months, driven 14,000 miles, that I would have had already 2 oil level warnings, and a third has now just appeared 3000 miles after its first service, so presumably the oil would have been checked then also.

Just seems odd to me, I did 160,000 miles over nearly 4 years in my last car and never once had to put oil in myself. It was a less powerful deisel though.

I have of course brought this up with Audi, but they say it is normal, however they have not really explained why it is normal and I guess I was just hoping for some advice or peace of mind. Or alternatively some ammo to go back to Audi with if it is not correct

Hope somebody can help and many thanks in advance

Ash

All Audi engines use oil to some degree or other. Check your owners handbook, there will be a figure in there which is considered "normal". If your doing 3000 miles between top-ups, I wouldn't think you've got a problem.

0.75 of a litre per 1000km

agree with above, usage can be 1 ltr every 1200 miles

hi

I have A5 Cab, 2.0 petrol

using 1 liter every 600 miles !!

Coventry where i purchased it from said it was normal, Audi in Poole where i live say its NOT normal..........they suspect its an Audi worldwide issue and they are trying to organise a "FIX", they say its a problem with "blocked breathers", no idea what they are.........they also say its only in relation to convertables, seems nonsense to me as im sure a 2L engine is a 2L engine, whether its in an A3,A4 or A5 etc ??

still in "negotiations" with Audi so will update later

Does anyone else have this problem !!??

Sounds like said dealer is creating a problem, as mentioned the correct consumption figure which is also noted in the owners handbook.Smooth running in process should reduce early oil consumption but its acceptable that all engines differ and also the driving style.Only after 10,000 miles would any form of oil consumption test be undertaken.
Oil level requires correct filling and checked at the correct temperature with a standing time of three mins.
