Can anyone help with this one?

I have a 2003 Bora Sport TDi 130, When it came to insure it I found to my shock that it falls into Group 12! I had a 130 TDi SE previously and that was only Group 8. Similarly I am led to believe that a Bora Sport TDi 130 builtin 2004 onwards is only Group 9.

Is this correct?

It is in IG 9 your right, not sure why you would be told other wise.

Is it standard? no mods? the Sport 150 is group 13, Maybe they are confused.

I think you will find that the tdi gt 130 is in IG 9 and the tdi gt 150 is in IG 13.

there was a recent post about the same subject, if i remember rightly, it was something to do with car's being regrouped....ill do some digging and see what i can come up with, in the meantime, id get the insurance company to double check they got it right ;) they get it wrong most of the time

I enquired about this with ABI and Thatcham, as I was a bit disappointed to find out my car is Group 12, when I was expecting it to be Group 9.

It appears that until 2004 the TDi Sport was available in 130 and 150hp variants. With no obvious differences on the exterior, therefore they both got put into Group 12 as a would-be thief would not be able to differenciate.
VW stopped making the 150 Sport in 2004, and thus the 130 Sport was put into Group 9.

Stupid really..I previously had a 130 SE, which from the outside looks absolutely the same as the Sport I now have. To make it worse, my car was registered at the end of Nov 03...just weeks away from Group 9!!! Grrrr!!!!!

My 53 reg Bora Sport Tdi 150 is group 13. Originally, my insurers had it in group 8, this was because they had it as a Bora ST.....fault of their computer and link up with the DVLA computer databases. Good job I checked it , eh?

dunno about insurance but i was gutted about the Road Tax (since we are chatting about registration dates)

My 1.9 TDi (115bhp) was registered September 00 and as such will cost me £180 full whack but if it was registered a few months later it would have been based on the CO2 emmissions and would have been circa £120 for 12 months!!

Swings and round abouts.

How much to tax your tdi 115? Something is amiss there, my 53 tdi 150 is £115 per year tax. It is based on emissions.

As stated, according to Parkers, if the car was registered after feb 2001 then it goes by CO2 emmissions. Prior to that it goes by engine size. :(

Also your text font is really killing my eyes... lol

So your car can't have been registered in September 2006 then!!!

LOL the amount of typos ive had at the tail end of an email....

im the same with my 115, mine was reg'd in 00, otherwise it would have been a damn site cheaper to insure :( currently paying £99 every 6 months ouch :(
