the esp light is still on the dash all the time on my 1.8t cab 04 reg , after doing research on the forum i have replaced the brake light switch on the pedal however the light is still staying on. I have plugged in a code reader and no fault is being detected. Any things i should try next. Does anyone in the north west have vag.com if this is the way forward.:beerchug:

what code reader did you use? i think the best way forward is to have it read by vagcom

hi yes its just a cheap plug in reader off ebay , it has worked for other faults ie coil packs etc , that would be fantastic if you could do a scan with vag.com and wudnt be expecting you to do it for nothing. Whereabouts are u situated and when would it be possible for you to have a look .

thanks roy

I'm sending you a PM Roy.

Have you got the ignition switched on when your reading faults, I've noticed mine misses controllers out if the ignition is off.

Don't think the generic code reader will pick up the brake switch fault as it's logged in the Instruments or the ABS module. VCDS or VAGCOM is the best way to access these modules. Generic ODB code readers only scan the engine ECU.

Just change the brake switch!! It's a £10 10 minute job and i bet it'll solve the problem.
If it hasn't gone wrong now it WILL in the future.
