Hello, everyone.I have 2005 Golf Plus GT 2.0 tdi.Few weeks ago it started suffer from ocassional power loss, when accelerating sharply.Problem go away every time I've switched engine off, then back on.Other than that it was running fine until couple days ago EGR valve started leaking oil.I now that is common in PD TDI engines.Diagnostic couldn't find any fault codes and I was adviced to replace EGR valve. Can anyone share information about similar problem and repair costs.Any help will be much appreciated.:1zhelp:

If it was going into limp mode as you describe it must have stored a fault code, I often see this with generic code reading equipment that only sees emissions errors and does not detect boost errors. On the BKD engine, what you describe is normally the turbo.

Thanks for reply and info.I have booked another test for next week in my local VW.Are you sayng that turbo may need replacing? It went to limp mode only few times in the past months-car does about 100 daily miles and drives fine most of the time.Would you suggest replace EGR valve anyway? Thanks again...

A leaking EGR valve will just look untidy, I don’t replace them unless they actually malfunction or get seriously blocked up when a leak and the time taken to clean them out means a new one is financially more sensible. It is likely in my experience that the turbo will need rebuilding, at VW they can replace the turbo on an AZV or BKD engine with a VW exchange unit, part number 03G 253 010 JX and these are horribly expensive. Specialists like myself can fit a rebuilt unit for about the same price as the part alone from VW, BUT they only come with a one year warranty whereas the VW unit is covered by a two year full parts and labour warranty, I always give customers the choice and guess which one most owners choose…

Thanks for useful advice Crasher, can you roughly estimate price for turbo rebuild? That would help me to decide, which way to choose.I'll get fault code check done anyway, just for the peace of mind...

It varies tremendously depending on where you go and the condition of the old unit but don’t buy based on price, quality is the most important factor. Typically you should pay just under £900 for a standard rebuild including labour and a couple of hundred more if the unit has suffered internal damage.
