Hi just wondered if anyone can advise me on problem with oil globules getting into expansion tank on my 1997 1.9 tdi estate AFN engine 116,000 on clock.Had head gasket done 2 years ago hope its not that again.Changed oil cooler last service but used a second hand one.Just running the same.Have cleaned exp tank a few times but am still getting oil traces especially when towing. Decided to pressure test my old cooler today .I blanked one end off with a pressure gague , then pressurised the cooler with mains water . Took it to 40 psi - no leak at all . I reversed the fittings cos i wasnt sure if there was a flow or return on cooler .Same result no leak. Am i looking at a slight head gasket leak or what.Just been to Cornwall towing , no coolant loss, temp const at 90c. Just fed up cleaning exp tank.No water in oil ,just oil in water

cheers Joey:confused:

is it just tiny drops of oil in water?? it could be the oil cooler with just the tinyest of leaks in and because it's so small it's not showing on a pressure test

Hi thanks for info, could be oil cooler, leaking a small ammount .Will have to monitor it. Not sure what original part from VW would cost:confused:
