Estate rear side window vents

Hi all, Just got me a nice black 59 passat estate 140 highline. love the car having had a BMW 3 series for the last 5 years. I was wondering the vents in under the rear side windows are cosmetic or should the actually blow, if so how as it dosent seem to work with the usual window fan setting. Also on the rear side windows i've noticed a couple of heater strips running diagonally across, these also dont seem to work when i swith the rear demister on. I've looked in the handbook but there is no refernce to this.
Any advise would be very helpful befor i take the car back and make a co*k of myself!

Having removed the boot trim to install parking sensors I can tell you that the vents won't be blowing air anytime soon.
The heater strips you are on about are in fact aerials.

Should've let you go and make an *** of yourself before telling you really:D
