A few years ago I visited and independent dealer in West Yorkshire and asked to test drive a 2.5TDi A6, as I was interested in trading my A4 in for an A6 and fancied the 2.5 quattro.
They looked down their nose at my A4 (2.8 quattro avant) claiming that it
wasn't a very good model and was not popular, so they couldn't offer me a trade in.
I asked if I could drive the A6 anyway but was refused as they thought it
wouldn't suit me!
I went somewhere else and bought a 2.4 A6 Quattro instead.
About a month ago I was passing the place and saw a 2.5TDi A4 estate in an olive green and thought it looked great. I popped in as I was looking to
trade in my 2.4 now and wanted soemthing a little sportier, which this
certainly was.
I was treated exactly the same except for the fact that the salesman was
eating a pastie throughout my visit there and even managed to spit some of it on me during our conversation!
He refused me a test drive as he thought it was out of my price range and he didn't want my A6 as it isn't a popular model?
I went on the internet later that day and bought a 2.7T A6 Avant quattro Sport, same colour, for about the same amount of money.
You have to wonder if I managed on both occasions to talk to the 'sales
prevention officer!'
He certainly wouldn't get a job with my company.
