beetle ESP light on

2002 1.6 AYD beetle ESP light on..

First saw light a few weeks ago after removing MAF and plastic housing to clean around throttle body. Most likely unrelated, but maybe I dislodged something in that area.

Fault is:

VAG-COM Version: Release 409.1-S
Control Module Part Number: 1C0 907 379 G
Component and/or Version: ESP FRONT MK60 0101
Software Coding: 0011266
Work Shop Code: WSC 00066
1 Fault Found:
01314 - Engine Control Module
013 - Check DTC Memory – Intermittent
No noticable change to car and fault will clear with VAG and on its own.

Ross-Tech pointing to faults in engine control module.
Why would faults here give an ESP fault????
