Hi,

I've recently bought a used 2006 Golf GT TDI with DSG gearbox from a multi-franchise group that has several dealerships on the south coast. My local dealership has a Skoda franchise, and has offered discounts on parts and servicing and free MOT tests as customer benefits attached to the warranty provided at the time of sale.

Whilst I am confident that their VAG-trained technicians can service and repair the Golf, I wonder whether having a Skoda dealer stamp the service book would put a future buyer off or reduce its resale value. The car has FSH with only the most recent service by a non-VW garage. By the time I come to move it on, it will be eight years old with around 75k on the clock.

My own thoughts are that it would probably not make a great deal of difference at this age and mileage, but would be grateful for your own observations.

Many thanks in anticipation

David

hi mate skoda is part of the VAG group so genuine filters will be used, IMHO it wont make any difference if they service it mate

How very random, i am servicing my skoda at VW ! They are the same group so they use the same service plans and use the same oil. But VW charge £119 for a service and Skoda charge £244 !

Hi Bora23,

Thanks for the information. Interesting that Skoda servicing costs more than at a VW franchise. I will certainly check this out as my "discount" may well be negated by this.

I've suspected that VW servicing is cheaper than Skodas' and had intended to get our 2010 Octavia serviced at our local VW dealer. I think our local VW dealer has much more servicing and diagnostic experience than our Skoda dealer. Might mean that Skoda reduce prices if they find out ( or VW put the stops on it or charges the same as Skoda !). Maybe we should keep it quiet ?

Well skoda state that the reason that they are more expensive is because VW does get subsidies from VAG for servicing non franchised (ie Volkswagens) and Skoda get sod all !

Ive just had the 92,000 service on my octavia and all good apart from new discs and pads at the front that VW wanted to charge me £344 !

I declined this and local vw specialist did it for £130 :-)

Shame he doesnt do servicing...
