Hi All, just a quick post.
Wifes Passat had 2 front tyres on the legal limit and needed 2 new ones, although she had nice alloys they were in a bad way with sixeable chunks of lacquer peeling off and pulling the paint with it....not nice.
I did intend to refurb them although it would have been quite a task:(
Anyhow, I decided to bid on some A3 Audi wheels with 112 pcd 5 stud setup from Ebay and got them for £160 with 2 brand new tyres and 2 with 7mm. 3 of them are in excellent condition and cleaned up nicely, but the 4th??
Well, It had some majot kerbing on it and some fairly deep damage in 4 or 5 places but I reckon I could sort it out.
I'm not gonna do a full write up as I've done it before, just sanded down, filled in with filler and sanded down progressively using finer n finer grit, then primed and painted using WURTH paint ( An ABSOLUTE MUST ) as it is a perfect match for Audi, VW and BMW.
3 coats of paint and 1 coat of lacquer to date.....I'll give it another 2 coats of lacquer tomorrow to finish it off.
Not perfect, just a quick refurb to get it back on the car....
Anyhow, here's a few pics

Hey guys, wheels all finished now, albeit on a really filthy car, but I've added the VW centre caps and some wheel bolt covers from Audi to finish....see what you think?

Gonna try and get the wheels off again soon, add 15mm hubcentric wheel spacers to fill out the arches, paint the hubs n calipers as well as thoroughly clean the wheel liners!

thanks for looking

Jim

they look good, it might actually give me the incentive to do mine as they are tatty and in desperate need, but i had to sort out some other problems with the car first (which is now done) so i might get around to doing this over the next couple of weeks

Nice one....I'll look forward to a proper write;)

I know about having things to do though....as I said, calipers n hubs need painting ( not major obviously, more cosmetic ) the bootlid needs attention ( struts or hinges - not sure yet ) and the bonnet needs respray due to lacquer peeling a little.....Then a good 5-6 hour detail and stand back and watch my wife slowly but surely undo all my hard work:(

i'm quite a newbie too passats, i've only had mine for 3 weeks and was on holiday for a week of that, but when i bought it i was told by the dealer that it had full comprehensive service history (in there advert for the car too) anyway when i went to pick the car up he didn't have any of the history to be seen and said it was still with the main dealer he bought it from, anyway none of it has materialiesed? so i have phoned VW who said they only had history on it until 56,000 they are supposed to be emailing me that (but has not arrived) (now 95,000) so it might have been an independant that done the rest but i didn't want to trust it, so i have changed the cambelt, waterpump, aux belt and air con belt also changed the air filter and the carbon filter, oil and filter to be done today, and then i will be happy at tleast i know it's been done!! then i will get started on my wheels so hopefully in the next week or two (and i will try and take photos) although i'm not the best for remembering, last week i was going to do a ALT 1.8T cambelt writeup but didn't remember until after i had finished DOH!!

Nice job mate, looked at doing mine (well the one I kerbed in all the icy weather) but I know my limitations. Look impressive those though.
